I have been an avid listener of podcasts for years. Why do hosts agree to read their own ads? Most of these personalities want to portray themselves as hip, progressive, independent, punk-rock. But when they're telling you to buy insurance and dick pills, they end up looking like some executive's little bitch. Stop selling out! Or at least don't be so obvious about it. That is exactly what has done in traditional TV and radio. You know why Netflix doesn't have ads? Because they grew a pair and asked people to pay a small price for valuable entertainment. Life will be better with less billboards.
