Venice Beach is a place that I have been visiting since I was a child. We used to drive up from Texas, back when it was legal, I assume, to let your children bump around in the back of a flatbed truck without wearing a seatbelt. We came for the colorful graffiti, the smell of burning sage and cannabis, the street performers and bodybuilders thirsty for attention, the grungy style of skaters, the shitty food and gimmicky souvenir t-shirts. The beach is decent, but that isn't why you go to Venice. You go to see people like Lina Telemann. You go to be entertained by humanity.
